Why do we need passports? Through examples of various types of passports from around the world, we will consider the guarantees and issuing authorities of each passport, as well as people's thoughts on their sense of belonging, such as the gap between the awareness of those who issue them and those who possess and use them. We will also introduce the oldest Japanese passport (a replica) held by the Japan Overseas Migration Museum. Lecturer: Chen Tianxi (Associate Professor, Department of Advanced Anthropology, National Museum of Ethnology) His research themes are globalization, people without "borders," and identification related to people on the move. He is also focusing on stateless people and refugees as well as people with multiple nationalities.
