What are the lessons of the Battle of Okinawa? This symposium will bring together members of the Okinawan community whose lives have been directly influenced by the Battle of Okinawa and the broader community at large to explore and share the lessons from the Battle. Speakers will include Fujiko Dandoy (survivor), Noriyoshi Arakaki (survivor), Mitzi Uehara Carter (scholar) and Frank Higashi (Military Intelligence Service veteran). The panel will be moderated by Professor Ben Kobashigawa. Rounding out the program will be performances by musician and exhibition curator Wesley Ueunten, Ph.D., saxophonist Francis Wong and taiko artist Melody Takata.
