This exhibition will introduce the Battle of Okinawa to the general public through photos, artifacts, and film footage as well as through public programs - including a symposium. The centerpiece will be a recreation of a cave similar to the ones that Okinawan civilians sought refuge from the fierce fighting known as the “Typhoon of Steel.” Local Okinawans, including survivors of the Battle and scholars will be featured in a symposium and other events during the exhibit period.
