Meanwhile, in the United States, the need for information on Japanese culture is greater than Japanese people would imagine, including not only recent pop culture such as manga and anime, but also traditional culture such as ancient art, gardens, tea ceremony and Japanese drums. We have invited Azuma Shigeharu, publisher and editor-in-chief of Cultural News , a monthly English newspaper based in Los Angeles that continues to provide information on Japanese culture in English, to talk about the growing interest in Japanese culture in the United States, the role and impact that Cultural News has had, and the challenges and possibilities for further disseminating cultural information, based on his experience of publishing an English newspaper for 12 years, while also taking into account the various changes currently underway.
