The 16th Mexico Seminar will be held as follows. This seminar is being held as part of the commemorative events for the 400th anniversary of Japan-Mexico exchanges. The lecturer will be Mr. Satoshi Yamada, curator at the Nagoya City Art Museum, who will talk about the fascinating art of the Mexican folk printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada, as well as the artists (not only Mexican but also Japanese and other foreign artists) who were inspired by Posada's art. After the lecture, a special session will be held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Japan-Mexico exchanges, with Mr. Sergio Gonzalez Galvez (former Mexican ambassador to Japan) and Mr. Eikichi Hayashiya (former ambassador to Spain and Bolivia, former minister to Mexico), who have both made efforts to promote friendship between the two countries. *In 1609, Rodrigo de Vivero, the acting governor of the Philippines, was washed ashore in Onjuku, Chiba Prefecture, due to a typhoon. The rescue of the fishermen and their safe return to Mexico on a ship provided by Tokugawa Ieyasu marked the beginning of friendship between Japan and Mexico.
