12th Japan Festival

The 12th edition of the Japan Festival will bring the public together at the Imigrantes Exhibition Center on July 17, 18 and 19, 2009 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Considered one of the largest Japanese cultural events in the world, and the largest in Latin America, the Japan Festival will feature musical shows, cultural attractions, traditional dances, cuisine, special exhibitions and activities for children. The Japan Festival has been held since 1998 by Kenren (Federation of Associations of Japanese Provinces in Brazil), an entity that brings together the 47 associations of Japanese provinces based in Brazil. The event aims to promote and preserve Japanese culture and traditions, and also supports charitable organizations and projects. Part of the Official Tourism Calendar of the State and Municipality of São Paulo, and of the festivities celebrating 101 years of Japanese immigration to Brazil, the 12th edition of the Festival will feature shows, with presentations of Japanese folk dances, the main taiko (Japanese drum) groups of the community, and the most renowned singers. On Saturday, July 18, the highlight will be the 7th edition of the Miss Festival of Japan contest, coordinated by Kendi Yamai. The winner of the 6th edition of the Miss Festival of Japan contest was Jéssica Yuri Aoki Nascimento, 23, from Votuporanga (SP).
