Photo exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil "Japan-Brazil Exchange Year Photo exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil - Japanese people who crossed over to the New World" A traveling photo exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary has started at about 100 locations in Japan from February 10th, co-hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Brazilian Japanese Immigration Centennial Association (Uehara Yukihiro, chairman). The Centennial History Editorial Committee (Mori Koichi, editorial committee chair) of the Brazilian Japanese Immigration History Museum (Kurihara Takeshi, steering committee chair), which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, selected up to 200 photos from the nearly 10,000 photos in its collection and those provided by 10 Japanese museums around the country by the end of 2007. The Brazilian Japanese Immigration History Museum further selected about 70 photos for the exhibition, provided them to JICA with photo explanations. From the latter half of last year until the end of the year, JICA called on local governments to hold photo exhibitions, and was in charge of producing photo panels and scheduling the traveling exhibition. It started on February 10th in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and initially planned to be held in 30 or so locations, but as the exhibition gradually gained popularity, the number of planned locations has increased to about 100 as of the end of March. It will be held in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, in succession. Depending on the size of the venue, the number of photos on display varies from 70 to 30. Please refer to this website for the schedule of the photo exhibition. http://www.jomm.jp/events/2007/brasil.html [inline:jjyunkai eiga_sm.jpg]
