Bunka no Hi at the Japanese Pavilion – November 11

Community Event
In Person
Pavilhão Japonês do Parque do Ibirapuera
São Paulo, Brazil

Date: Nov. 11, 2007 – Dec. 2, 2007

On November 3rd, Japan celebrates “Bunka no Hi”, Culture Day. In order to celebrate the date in Brazil, the Brazilian Society of Japanese Culture and Social Assistance (Bunkyo) is organizing a series of musical performances at the Japanese Pavilion in Ibirapuera Park, which will take place on the following Sundays in November and December, always from 11 am to noon. “We were inspired by the significance of this date to organize a series of Japanese musical performances on Sunday, a day when Ibirapuera Park receives a large number of visitors”, says Leo Ota, president of the Japanese Pavilion Management Committee. Inaugurated on December 6th, 1954, the Japanese Pavilion in Ibirapuera Park was the symbol of the Japanese-Brazilian community during the festivities of the 4th Centennial of the city of São Paulo. The result of a joint effort by the entire Japanese-Brazilian community, more than 45,000 families from all over Brazil contributed to the completion of the project. First built in Japan and then transported to Brazil, the building features a koi pond, a Japanese garden, and an exhibition hall with Japanese art objects, in addition to the building itself, which is an example of authentic Japanese architecture. The Japanese Pavilion Management Committee aims to use this event to further promote the pavilion among parkgoers, which always receives many visitors on Sundays.
