Date: Nov. 11, 2007

Time: 2 p.m.

The Koyasan Kongoryu Gashodan group is performing for the first time in Brazil. The pilgrimage songs are performed by a choir of Buddhist monks in a show called The Sound of Manadala . Founded on April 1, 1983, with the intention of promoting the Koyasan Kongoryo's pilgrimage song and melody, the group is made up of choir teachers aged up to 50. The Koyasan Kongoryu Gashodan has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York (1997) and in Hawaii, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Buddhism in the archipelago. It has also collaborated with several pilgrimage songs in Japan. Since 2003, the Mandara no oto (The Sound of Mandala) tour has performed in several places in Japan (Tokyo, Gumma, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Okayama). This will be its only performance in São Paulo. During our tour of Brazil, we will be presenting the show “O SOM DE MANDALA” as a way of paying homage to all the immigrants and their descendants who, in 2008, will be celebrating the Centennial of Japanese Immigration to Brazil. If we can transmit vitality, joy and serenity for the future of everyone, we will consider our goal as achieved , says the message from Bunsho Yamamoto, leader of the group. The show starts at 2:00 p.m. and admission is free; tickets must be picked up in advance at the Bunkyo office.
