Performing Arts
In Person
entro de Convenções do Anhenbi
Avenida Olavo Fontoura, 1209 – Santana São Paulo, Brazil

Date: Nov. 4, 2007

Time: 9 a.m.

An important initiative to promote Taiko in Brazil will be held on November 4th. The 1st Taiko Festival will feature the participation of 28 groups from different regions and will also feature a special presentation of odaiko (large taiko). The festival is promoted by the Brazilian Taiko Association with the support of the Association for the Celebration of the Centennial of Japanese Immigration in Brazil and the city government of São Paulo. The Brazilian Taiko Association has a recent history; the organization originated from the activities carried out by the Fukuoka Association of Brazil for the teaching of wadaiko (the Japanese drum) that began in 2002. In July of that year, Professor Yukihisa Oda came to Brazil through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), giving new perspectives to the organization. From then on, the increasingly frequent initiatives for teaching wadaiko gave rise to groups in different regions, not only in São Paulo. Today, the association coordinates these groups and works to promote the Japanese drum throughout Brazil.
