Rikkyo University Asian Area Studies Association Public Lecture "The Formation and Transformation of the Oriental Town of Sao Paulo, Brazil" This lecture will focus on the Flower Festival, Tanabata Festival, Oriental Festival, and Mochitsuki Festival, which were created in the 1960s and 1970s in the Oriental Town of Sao Paulo, a representative Asian ethnic town in Brazil. We will clarify the factors and mechanisms behind the creation of these four urban festivals, as well as how they have been represented and consumed as "Japanese culture" in relation to the tourism and cultural strategies of the city of Sao Paulo. Lecture Negawa Sachio Associate Professor, Department of Foreign Languages and Translation, University of Brasilia Profile: Completed the Master's course in Japanese Literature at the Graduate School of Letters, Doshisha University in 1990. His research theme is "Japanese culture" in Brazil. His publications include "Design and Possibilities of the Japanese Culture Course Abroad: What the University of Brasilia's Japanese Culture Course Aims to Do," Literacies No. 2 (Kuroshio Publishing, 2006), and others.
