We hope to have as many comm unity centers\, JACL chapters\, non-profit organizations\, student groups\ , kenjinkais\, athletics groups\, martial arts organizations\, etc.\, repr esented as possible. \n\nA general description of Nikkei Community Day is below. \n\nFrom the Nikkei Community Day concept paper draft:\n\nWith the Japanese American community spread out in pockets all over the L.A.\narea\ , a certain sense of a unified\, cohesive community has been lost.\nPromot ing activities that connect the disparate parts\, can only strengthen\nthe ties that bind the community and ensure its survival and prosperity in\nt he future. One such activity that could bring the entire community togethe r\nwould be a one-day event called Nikkei Community Day\, to be commemorat ed in\nMay as part of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.\n\nA “Nikke i Community Day” could bring the whole community together for a day\,\na nd jumpstart something new and significant for the future. It would be a\ nday when Nikkei from every part of the L.A. region come to the cultural a nd\nsymbolic home of their community--Little Tokyo--to say three things: “we are\nhere\,” “we are a strong and viable community together with a significant\nvoice\,” and “we have something important and valuable to contribute to our\ndiverse region\, our country\, and the world.” I t would be a celebration of\n“who we are and what we do” as an ethnic community with a long history in the\nU.S. And it would bring together al l of the various Nikkei community centers\nand community organizations to showcase who they are and what they do\, and to\n share information and re sources with each other. A day like this would go a\nlong way toward conn ecting the community and developing community infrastructure.\n\nAt Nikkei Community Day\, community centers and community organizations will\nbe in vited to have booths on the JACCC's Noguchi Plaza. They will put on\ndispl ay whatever they want to show about their centers or organizations and\nwi ll share information about their mission and activities. The\nparticipati on of groups from all over the L.A. area will give each group a\nstake in this event and thereby encourage Nikkei from different parts of the\nregi on to make a special trip to Little Tokyo for this one day out of the\nyea r. Participating groups will be given stage time on the plaza for\nperfor mances (music\, dance\, martial arts\, etc.). .\n\nA keynote speaker will address the topic of “The State of the Nikkei\nCommunity”and a panel o f Nikkei leaders will respond to kick off the day. \nIt is a topic that ca n be addressed every year.\n\n\n DTSTAMP:20241007T200700Z SUMMARY:Nikkei Community Day\, Little Tokyo (Los Angeles\, CA) URL:/en/events/2007/05/12/nikkei-community-day-little-tokyo/ END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
