WORKSHOP
May 13 & 14, 11 AM—5 PM
Fulfill your own artistic vision inspired by the exhibition A Third Gender with this weekend workshop. Geared for the young and young-at-heart, this two-day session led by artist Keiji Shinohara teaches traditional Japanese techniques for conceiving a woodblock design, carving the blocks, and printing, all of which have been adapted by artists working today.
Keiji Shinohara has been teaching Japanese printmaking and sumi-e painting for over 20 years at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He studied the traditional ukiyo-e technique of the uesugi studio in Kyoto, Japan for over 10 years. Shinohara has received grants from the Japan Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, and his work are found in many public collections, including the Region of Honor Museums of San Francisco, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Library of Congress. He has given lectures at Arthur M. Slacker and Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Art, and Boston and Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He has been a visiting artist at over 100 venues and has held 40 solo shows.
Admission to the exhibition included with ticket purchase.
